02/05/2009, Tahau Northern Exposure

Tahau Northern Exposure was born in August 1995 and bred by the Sneddon family of Tokoroa. His sire was the Danish bull Fyn Index and his Dam is Tahau Mikkeonly, an EX4 cow sired by another Danish sire, OJ Mickkel. Mikkelonly has an impressive production record consisting of 13 lactations. At the time Exposure was offered to several AB companies who all declined to use him due to his lower BW, this prompted Tim Sneddon to collect the bull on his own account and market the semen to some fellow Jersey breeders. Unfortunately the bull had an accident after he returned home from the centre and had to be put down. When the first daughters started to calve, the Sneddons’ knew they were on to a winner. Farmers that used him were all very impressed with the superior qualities of the Exposure daughters but unfortunately very little semen was left.

Lloyd Wilson from Denson Dale stud in Southland comments, ”…we mostly used Exposure on our Berretta bloodlines, as he added depth of chest and strength to the mating. Our 21 Northern Exposure daughters are now four years old and will this year produce on average production in excess of 600 kgMs, half of them have qualified excellent. The udders are superb and they are good trouble free cows to work with…”

Today Tahau Northern Exposure’s BW stands at 205 and is $92 above his parental average. Based on his early BW of 53 as a young bull, Northern Exposure can be regarded as a Super Sire. Tahau Northern Exposure is NZ’s breed leader in FERTILITY and UDDER CONFIRMATION.
